INOLA – Lanky right hander Seth Martin allowed two hits while fanning eight, leading Fort Gibson to a 6-1 victory over Inola in District 4A-7 baseball on Friday.

Reliever Brandon Dewey tossed the final three innings for the Tigers, allowing one baserunner, as the visitors improved to 14-7 and 6-1 in district play. The Longhorns dropped to 6-14 and 2-5.

Second baseman Uriah Aaron manufactured Inola’s lone run in the fourth inning with a double to center field, taking third on a wild pitch and scoring on Ty Crutchfield’s infield out.

The Longhorns’ first hit came with one away in the second frame. Shortstop Devin Wiley singled up the middle, but was subsequently caught in a rundown between first and second base. The final Inola base runner was leadoff hitter Jordan Spurlock who was struck by Dewey in the sixth.

With two outs, Spurlock stole second, but was left stranded after Matthew Trolinger flew out to right field.

Fort Gibson compiled seven hits, including two singles by left fielder Caden Abbott. The Tigers scored twice in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead, utilizing three hits. Dewey knocked in catcher Cole Igert with a base hit, then Abbott’s single through the middle scored Dewey.

Three Longhorn errors and two singles created four Tiger runs in the fourth. Justin Garrett reached base due to a miscue and was batted around by Martin‘s hit, making it 3-0. Martin touched home plate when Andrew Rumsley singled to left field.

Igert sacrificed Kaden Berry and Rumsley to third and second, respectively, then Dewey’s ground ball was thrown wide to first, allowing both Berry and Rumsley to score, creating a 6-0 deficit for the Longhorns.
