RIVALRY GAME

In what was likely the last-ever meeting between the Rockville and South Windsor football teams, the Bobcats prevailed, 56-29, but both teams looked back on the season as a stepping stone to the future. The rivalry, which dates back to 1972, won't continue, as Rockville's sports teams are set to move from the Central Connecticut Conference to the NCCC next year, and won't have South Windsor on its schedule going forward. South Windor scored just 1:34 into the game, when quarterback Connor Kapisak connected with receiver Connor Dunn for a 39-yard score, but Rockville returned the favor as Rockville's Mark Henry returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. South Windsor proved to have more offensive firepower in the match, adding seven more touchdowns to Rockville's three. "We executed really well on offense," said South Windsor coach Dave Hodge. "We had a rough stretch in the middle of the season. This week, we really put it together. We're really young in a lot of ways, and our immaturity really showed for us in the middle of the season, unfortunately." "It was a very good season," Hodge added, about his 6-4 Bobcats. "I think we turned a corner. We've had some 1-win seasons, and last year, we were 4-6. We were one play away from beating Platt and making the playoffs." Rockville coach AJ Taddio has been trying to build his program, and tied the number of wins from last year (with one forfeit), but that is a step in the right direction after a 1-win season in 2014 and no wins the year prior (before Taddio). "Our offense was explosive this year, we just struggled on the defense," Taddio said. "Last year, it was our offense that struggled. One of these years, we're going to put it together, where they're both good. We were competitive in more games. We took a step forward. We thought our record should be better than 3-7. We're getting there. We made progress. Each year, it's going in the right direction."
